Why you should shop at Abt Electronics and buy their Extended Protection Plans
Let me start by saying Abt Electronics isn’t paying me for this review; I applied to be an affiliate seller for them, and they said NO; I don’t have enough web traffic for them. But I can put that aside for an honest review.
Items I have in my home from Abt Electronics with Extended Protection Plans / Extended Warranty
- Fridge $2,299.00
- Dishwasher $749.00
- Oven $1,100.00
- Microwave $199.99
- Washer $849.00
- Dryer $1,000.00
- 75’ TV $2,096.99
- 65’ TV $1,645.00
- Two Soundbars $245.00 each
Yes, that’s A LOT of money I've spent with them over the last six years, and all the products have extended protection plans. Stephanie’s parents shop with them even more than we do, but we both love the store and the people in it.
Abt is at least an hour drive for me. If there is traffic, it’s a good two hours, but they are MUCH better than Best Buy. If Abt opened other stores around the state or country, Best Buy would be in real trouble. Abt has a better selection of everything; also, the money is going to a local business owner and not some big corporation that doesn't care about you.
Founded in 1936, Abt began as a small store with only three employees in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. Abt has since grown to become one of the largest independent single-store appliance and electronics retailers in the country. It is situated on 68 acres in Glenview, IL, and employs a staff of more than 1,500 trained experts.
As you walk in the 100,000 square-foot showroom, you will see everything that you could ever want.
- Full Kitchens
- All Appliances
- TVs and Electronics
- Sound Systems
- Computers and Laptops
- Fitness Equipment
- Ice Makers
- Heating, Cooling and Air Quality
- Vacuum Cleaners
- Outdoor Recreation
- Power Tools
- Basically everything you could want
I love the 7,500-gallon saltwater aquarium; it is beautiful and my kids love it. When we go to Abt, we hang out there for awhile and then we start shopping for what we came for.
As you get to the backside of the store, you hit a mini-mall with a huge fountain. From this area, you can head upstairs to a loft area which adds an additional 10,000 square feet and features premier kitchen appliances from a dozen luxury manufacturers including Bosch, Dacor, Gaggenau, Jenn-Air, La Cornue, KitchenAid, Miele, Monogram, Thermador, Samsung, SubZero/Wolf, and Viking.
Now to the most crucial part: the sales staff.
When you start looking around, a salesperson will stop by, say hi, introduce themselves and let you know that you can ask them any questions you have. They let you browse and don’t bother you until you're ready, which is fantastic. Other stores annoy the daylights out of you. When you do go to them for questions, they have the answers and act like a dependable sales staff and treat you with respect. They will go into as much or as little detail as you want. The ones I have dealt with had up to date review facts on the product I was asking about. I was astonished that they knew the good and bad things people have said about the products. I’ve never seen that before in an electronics store.
When you go to purchase the product, they will push the extended warranty on you, and you should buy it, as it is excellent. These days products frequently die after a year or two and then you need to buy a new one. Big corporations don’t care about you and want you to keep buying more new things instead of getting them repaired. Don’t think of them trying to make you spend more money because the warranty is excellent and they are just trying to look out for you.
Shipping, Returns, Delivery and Installation
As far as shipping, returns, delivery and installation, to be honest I have never had them ship anything to me or have had to do a return. The delivery is simple because I’m relatively local; they call the day before and tell me the driver will call tomorrow with an eta. The day of, you get a call from the driver and a text message with a link to track the truck. They show up, come to the door and find out where you want it. They bring it inside, making sure not to break or hit anything. They will also take the old device away if you had that service added to the delivery.
Installation, I just found out about recently, when they replaced my broken tv with a new one. When they bring the item, they will unpack it, check to make sure there is no damage, find out where it is going and install it. If it’s a tV, they put the mounting brackets on it while it’s sitting in the base of the box. Then they hang it on the wall or set it on the tv stand. They will plug in everything and make sure it works and show you the features of the tv. For all other items I’m sure they do something similar.
The perks: FREE SHIPPING on orders over $35, FREE RETURNS, free 1-2 Day Shipping – UPS Ground Shipping.
As far as warranty and repair, Abt has in-house technical staff that handles repairs, installation, and service issues. Extended Protections Plans
The Extended Protections Plans are GREAT. You can read my review on them here.
Why do you need Extended Protection Plans/ Extended Warranties on Electronics and other expensive items?
Plain and simple, the plans save you money when the item breaks before it should. It seems like everything now is built like crap and the products are designed to only last a year or two, then tossed in the trash. A lot of items are hard to recycle in some areas, so we are just making more unneeded trash.
Why keep having to buy something new every few years because it broke and make the big corporations that don’t care about you more profit and show them it's okay to sell items that don’t last?
“After 84 years, we still go by the motto ‘The house that service built.’”

My thoughts and opinions: no one is paying me to promote their products. This means no company is paying me to give them good reviews. I’m not going to play that game of we’ll provide you with cash, products, referrals, and so on if you give us good reviews. If a company feels like giving me money, products, or referrals, then good for them. This will not change how I review their products. If I think the product is Good, I will promote it as a tested product that I stand behind as it should work fine for you. I have no problem saying what’s good, bad, needs fixed, or added to the product.
